Infiniti QX56 Less Costly than Mercedes-Benz GL Series!
Luxury vehicles are by no means an inexpensive investment, and two of the biggest brands in the business are in competition with their SUV lines. You can go to Lexington Mercedes-Benz to test-drive one of their GL models and then stop by somewhere else to drive a comparable Infiniti QX56. Some may say that the Sequoia available at any Boston Toyota dealer is in the same class, but the luxury lines are best left to the industry leaders. Used models of both should be available for purchase from Peoria VW or any other dealership with a used car inventory; call ahead for availability.
Both models have comparable MSRP sticker prices, but there is more than purchase price when deciding the actual cost of a vehicle. The fuel economy of both vehicles is about the same and lifetime gas cost should be relatively equal for both the QX56 and GL-Series. Insurance costs for the Infiniti is dramatically lower, with an estimated 5-year cost around $6,500 versus the pricey $11,800 5-year insurance cost for the Mercedes-Benz GL. Maintenance and repair costs for the QX56 will also cost you a good deal less than its German counter-part.
Looking at some of the functional day-to-day aspects of both vehicles is where the differences start to emerge. The Mercedes-Benz GL offers considerably more cargo room and the ability to carry large cargo items, however, the Infiniti QX56 offers a friendly alternative for families with small children. The GL will be a better fit for tall drivers and passengers as it offers slightly more head room. Looking at the rest of the cabin size and comfort amenities, they offer virtuously the same quality you would come to expect from both luxury auto makers.
As far as driving capability, again, there is hardly a difference worth writing about. Both offer horsepower that rival any sports car on the market. Both the QX56 and GL-Class offer tight handling that make city driving in and out of tight spaces a breeze for drivers. While the Infiniti engine is notably larger than the Mercedes-Benz, the power achieved from both is basically equal.
